In partnership with the Warrior Spirit Collective, Multicultural Arts Victoria is thrilled to be back with the annual Black Harmony Gathering. Opening with a special Welcome to Country by Colin Hunter, Koori Dance by the Kinneman Dancing Spirits Troupe, and Smoking CeremonyBlack Harmony Gathering will also feature:

  • multitalented Mutti Mutti song man Kutcha Edwards,
  • MC Amos Roach,
  • 7-piece high energy roots reggae band Rasta Unity,
  • Samoan dance specialists Tama Tatau,
  • African Star Drumming and Dance in collaboration with performer and artists Matthew Weegberg of Mutti Mutti (in NSW) and Boonwurrung (in VIC) heritage, and Yamaji (in WA) and Gunni (VIC) man Brent Watkins,
  • Performances by young MCs from Artful Dodgers Studio, and
  • The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre Music Group made of members from around the globe

The Gathering will also feature a Koori BBQ with emu and kangaroo sausages from Warburton run by members of the Warrior Spirit Arts Collective, delicious food served from the kiosk onsite, and a range of kids’ activities.

As part of Black Harmony Gathering 2016, Multicultural Arts Victoria is also presenting The Good Deed Film Showing and Q&A on Thursday 24 March, 6pm-8pm at the Fitzroy Town Hall. Featuring Robbie Thorpe as Uncle Lucky and Kynan Brown as Tyrone, an 11 year old delinquent runaway Aboriginal street kid, this short film tells a contemporary story exploring how the two live in everyday urban Melbourne, questioning what culture and traditions they can hold onto and what the future can bring. Black Harmony Gathering coincides with Victoria’s Cultural Diversity Week, 12-20 March 2016, an annual opportunity for all Victorians to come together and share friendship and culture.
